Meet The Fine Arts Faculty!
Steven Hayes
FINE ARTS DEPARTMENT CHAIR,
HS VISUAL ARTS
Mr. Hayes is entering his 30th year of teaching at Goodpasture. During that time, he has taught classes in Visual Arts, Graphic Design, Video Production, Leadership and Bible. Since 2007, he has served as the Fine Arts department chair. He coached the high school boys tennis team for 16 years, and has sponsored the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for 25 years. He attended GCS from grades 1-12 (Class of 1991), and he received a B.A. from Lipscomb University and an M.Ed. from Tennessee State University.

Alexis Matherley
ELEMENTARY FINE ARTS DIRECTOR
Mrs. Matherley graduated from Lipscomb University with a bachelor's degree in music education and a bachelor's degree in vocal performance. She jumped right into her career at Goodpasture where she served as the elementary music teacher for 20 years and is now in her sixth year as Elementary Fine Arts Director. Mrs. Matherley enjoys singing all types of music and writing music and shows. She is active in her church and enjoys time with her husband Jason and 2 boys: Titus and Micah.

Michael McElroy
DIRECTOR OF BANDS
Mr. McElroy is coming to Goodpasture from Mamou, Louisiana. Currently in his 7th year as an educator, Mr. McElroy has shown great success in building programs and the musicians within them. He is honored to be leading the Cougar Band back onto the field for marching competition this year and he hopes to grow the program substantially in the years to come! Mr. McElroy is the product of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where he received his BA in Instrumental Music Education, and is currently pursuing his Masters of Arts in Music Education at the Teachers College, Columbia University in New York City.

Kristin Duke
ELEMENTARY MUSIC, DANCE TEAM COACH
Mrs. Duke is entering her sixth year of teaching elementary music here at Goodpasture. She was previously the interim music teacher at Sumner Academy. Her love of all things music, theatre and dance runs deep and she enjoys sharing her passions with the students here at GCS!

Allison High
ELEMENTARY VISUAL ARTS
Ms. High is a Goodpasture alumnae (Class of 2005) and a graduate of Lipscomb University (Class of 2009). Art is her God-given talent and gift. It has become her platform for many of her passions-teaching, inspiring, mentoring, and building confidence in creativity in children. It is an honor to teach at Goodpasture as she considers it “home.”

Ginny Shockley
THEATRE DIRECTOR
Mrs. Shockley is entering her sixth year at GCS. She teaches all theatre classes for grades 7-12. In addition, she directs the three main-stage theatre productions. She received her B.F.A. in Musical Theatre from Lipscomb University and her M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction from Middle Tennessee State University.

Olivia Gates
THEATRE STAFF - CHOREOGRAPHER
Mrs. Gates is starting her 3rd year teaching at GCS but 9th year teaching! She teaches 4th Grade Science but is so excited to do choreography for two of the theater productions. Mrs. Gates has been dancing since she was two in styles ranging from ballet to ballroom. She was a part of a student-run dance company at Vanderbilt called Momentum Dance Company for the four years she attended VU.
Zach Shockley
CHORUS DIRECTOR
Mr. Shockley, a seasoned artist and session singer in Nashville, holds a degree in Vocal Performance from Trevecca Nazarene University (Class of 2014). His journey includes: captivating theatre performances, vocal expertise in studios, and background vocal work. As the dedicated chorus director at Goodpasture for five years, he, along with his wife and esteemed colleagues, nurtures young talents and shapes Nashville's artistic future. The Shockleys find their home at GCS, deeply connected and committed to fostering students' growth.
