SYNOPSIS

Seventeen-year-old Parker is 3,300 feet under the sea in a high-tech submersible named Petunia, on a solo mission to find the fabled lost city of Atlantis. But as sonar pings echo and shadowy sea creatures pass by, reality filters through—the clanging of a high school bell. Back on dry land, Parker’s fiercely grounded sister Colleen must journey to face her own demons: from the halls of the high school to the depths of the ocean floor. Through shifting scenes that alternate between deep-sea fantasy and high school reality, we discover these siblings’ underwater quest is fueled by something far more personal than treasure: searching for a way forward after the loss of their mother threatens to unravel their family.

This production is part of our Winterim program, offering high school students a fast-paced, hands-on theatre experience unlike any other. In just two days, students will work together to bring an entire production from concept to performance. Student teams—including acting, costumes, lighting, sound, construction, and more—will collaborate across every area of the production process, taking creative ownership of the work both onstage and behind the scenes. The result is a fully student-produced show built through teamwork, creativity, problem-solving, and an exciting race against the clock.

TECH CREW TEAMS

 
DIRECTION & STAGE MANAGEMENT​

This team keeps the entire production moving. Directors will guide the overall vision of the show, work with actors on staging and storytelling, and help make creative decisions. Stage managers will organize rehearsals, track schedules and cues, communicate with every team, and make sure everyone knows what needs to happen and when. This team is responsible for helping all departments stay coordinated from the first rehearsal through the final performance.​

CONSTRUCTION
The construction team will create, build, assemble, and install the scenic elements needed for the production. Working with a small budget and a very short timeline, this team will need to think creatively, use available materials wisely, and focus on what will make the biggest impact onstage. Responsibilities may include building simple scenery, arranging furniture, painting, modifying existing pieces, and making sure everything is safe and performance-ready.

SOUND
The sound team is responsible for everything the audience hears beyond the actors’ voices. This may include selecting or creating sound effects, music, preshow audio, transitions, and other sound cues that support the story. The team will also organize and test audio equipment, build cue lists, and run sound during the performance. Their goal is to help create the world of the show through sound.
​
LIGHTING
The lighting team will use light to establish mood, focus attention, support transitions, and help tell the story visually. Students will decide what lighting moments the production needs, program cues, test equipment, and make adjustments during rehearsals. During the performance, the team will be responsible for executing lighting cues.
​
PROPS
The props team will find, create, modify, organize, and manage all of the objects actors use or interact with onstage. With a small budget, this team will need to be resourceful—using borrowed, found, recycled, or handmade items whenever possible. They are responsible for making sure every prop fits the needs of the production, is ready for rehearsal and performance, and is in the correct place when actors need it.

STYLE
The style team is responsible for shaping how the characters look. Students will make decisions about costumes, hair, makeup, and the overall visual style of the performers. Working with a small budget, the team will rely heavily on creativity, existing costume pieces, borrowed items, simple alterations, and smart styling choices. They will also help actors get ready for the performance and make sure each character’s look supports the world and story of the show.
